This page includes reo Māori current research projects Awanui is leading as well as resources to support whānau, caregivers, educators, and hapori who are strengthening te reo Māori in everyday life.

These resources can be used as a starting point for all who are keen to extend their current understandings.

Finding the right resources that suit our learning style can be challenging, but here are a few options that might work for your reo journey.

Kia Tōnuitia Te Reo

Dr. Awanui Te Huia is currently leading a national rangahau reo Māori project aimed at understanding the challenges related to raising tamariki reo Māori. A second component of this research examines how we create Māori language communities outside of classroom contexts. I’m grateful to work alongside my research team whose range of complementary skills supports quality research methods and outputs. Our research team includes Dr. Maureen Muller, Dr. Mike Ross, Paul Edwards, Kelly Keane-Tuala, Kanauhea Wessles, Kody Ward, Dr. Ellie Rukuwai, Dr. Ririwai Fox and Jade Gifford.

We have designed this project to include the advice of our advisory group who each bring with them extensive experience in the field of rangahau reo Māori including Dr. Richard Benton, Piripi Walker, Prof. Rawinia Higgins, Dr. Maraea Hunia, Moe Milne, Dr. Ruakere Hond and Assoc. Prof. Sarah-Jane Paine. If you’re interested in participating in or learning more about our project, get in touch here.

This project is funded by Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga. Nā Tukaroto Mahuta te tohu.
