Kua tūwhera tēnei paetukutuku mō te hunga e ngākaunui ana ki te reo Māori me ngā kaupapa e ora ai tātou. This space is dedicated to te reo Māori reclamation. There is also space for those who are working towards meaningful allyship.
As someone who continues to reclaim te reo in our own home, I understand some of the challenges being worked through. As an educator, I’ve seen the power that te reo reclamation can have in our lives as both individuals and as people who belong to a wider collective, including our whānau and hapori (communities). Through my lived experience and through my research as an academic, I understand the complexities associated with this haerenga and the rewards that come from taking on this journey.
Being raised biculturally gives me an understanding about how meaningful biculturalism for Aotearoa could be possible. I apply my training in psychology to help unpack some of the recurring challenges that we’re faced with and offer solutions to those seeking an approach that is aligned with a Te Tiriti led future.
Here, I share guidance for whānau, practical tools for educators, and strategies for organisations who want to embed Māori values beyond surface-level compliance. My focus is on strengthening identity, nurturing confidence, and creating communities where te reo Māori is not just learned, but lived every day.
